Theme: BEST SONG EVER! [05 May 2007|11:33am]

[ mood | hungry ]

Yo! Breaking the hiatus to present you with my musical addiction of the moment: Raven by Do As Infinity.

Do As Infinity - Raven
[BREAK OF DAWN: Track 7 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
I've had a million songs by this band for as long as I can remember, but they never really caught on for me until the other day, when the melody of Raven, a song I had never taken note of, randomly popped into my head -- yeah, it was really weird!! But upon re-listening to Raven, I realized how amazing and addictive this song is, and it moved to nearly the top of my playlist in a day. :DDD Light J-rock with a female vocalist = good stuff.

Announcement: Growing Weeds is on hiatus - NOT dead! [18 Apr 2007|05:56am]

[ mood | guilty ]

Sorry for ignoring this community!! x_x; I've been debating what to do, and I've concluded that Growing Weeds will be on hiatus for the next month, then will return to its normal schedule. I only have a month left of high school before I take exams and basically graduate, so I need to work hard and make sure that I do graduate!

Please stick around until then, okay? I think I'll pop in with music on the weekends when I'm not running around like a chicken with its head cut off... and GW might come back sooner than expected, if I've overestimated my workload... but at the moment, the next month looks like a dark hell of busyness, so... again, I'm sorry! ;_;

Theme: Video Game Theme Songs [05 Apr 2007|07:21pm]

I'm so, so sorry! I missed two rotations, and I'll probably miss Sunday's too. x_x; I haven't been feeling well, my parents turned off the internet for a day, &c.

Annika - Song of Mana
[Legend of Mana: Track 4 | Genre: Pop | Language: Swedish]
This is the theme song for Legend of Mana, which I've never played... but this song is incredible!! The instrumentals feel adventurous and are perfectly complemented by Annika's powerful yet beautiful vocals. Highly recommended!

Angela Aki - Eyes On Me
[Kokoro no Senshi: Track 4 | Genre: J-pop/Acoustic | Language: English]
This is the theme song for my absolute favorite game, Final Fantasy VIII!... well, sort of. It's actually a cover of the original theme song by Faye Wong. I definitely prefer the original version, but Angela Aki's cover is fantastic nevertheless -- it just doesn't capture the spirit of FFVIII, in my opinion. Angela Aki has a great voice (probably better than Faye Wong's, but I guess that's subjective) and masterfully reworks Eyes On Me into a piano piece infused with a bit of pop.

Nana Mizuki - Mirai Kono Hoshi De
[Natsuiro no Sunadokei Sound Collection: Track 31 | Genre: J-pop | Language: Japanese]
This is the ending theme for the bishoujo game Hourglass of Summer (Natsuiro no Sunadokei) - which you all ought to play! - and is sung by Kaho's voice actress. The mp3 is fairly rare and took me weeks to track down, so if you're gonna listen to it, you'd best do it right now. Anyway, I love this song, especially the chorus! It has a very "anime" feel to it, but that's not a bad thing in this case.

Comment, my pretties!

Theme: Get Happy! [02 Apr 2007|09:19pm]

Need a pick-me-up? Look no further! The following songs will hyperactively beat the gloom from your body until you have died of happiness. 8D

Marika Matsumoto - Get Happy!
[Final Fantasy X Vocal Collection: Track 8 | Genre: J-pop | Language: Japanese]
Get Happy! is sung by Rikku's voice actress, Marika Matsumoto, so it's no surprise that this song is adorable.

AAA - Kimono Jet Girl
[ALL: Track 7 | Genre: J-pop | Language: Japanese]
Hyper: defined. This song is insanely addictive!

Ai Otsuka - SMILY
[LOVE COOK: Track 4 | Genre: J-pop | Language: Japanese]
SMILY - is - so - cute!! (And it's even better if you watch the PV.) If this song doesn't put a smile on your face, I don't know what will.

Comment, please! I don't bite. <3 What kind of music do you guys want to see more of in the future? Any requests or suggestions for themes?

Theme: Girl Rock [01 Apr 2007|08:08pm]

[ mood | hungry ]

Hi again! Here's a big post to make up for yesterday.

Ikimono Gakari - KIRA★KIRA★TRAIN
[Sakura Saku Machi Monogatari: Track 2 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
I am utterly addicted to this song!! Seriously, it's so good, it's like crack! Ikimono Gakari is definitely a band to watch; they have a totally unique sound, and lead singer Kiyoe has one of the best voices out there. When she sings, "Kira, kira," and "Sayonara, sayonara," it's fantastic! Her voice is cute, but not cutesy, if you get me.

Tsukiko Amano - Bodaiju
[Sharon Stones: Track 1 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
Tsukiko Amano is brilliant. This song is pretty hardcore (by my standards, anyway), but it's still melodic and beautiful. I'd recommend it to the ends of the earth!

CORE OF SOUL - Photosynthesis
[Natural Beauty: Track 6 | Genre: J-pop/J-rock | Language: Japanese]
Yay, another excuse to post music by CORE OF SOUL! XD The verses to this song are peaceful and ethereal, then things pick up for the chorus. My favorite part is when Fumiko sings the word photosynthesis - so pretty!

F.I.R. - Ai De Li Liang
[Unlimited: Track 10 | Genre: C-pop/C-rock | Language: Mandarin]
This song is all that is catchy and fun. I love when the lead singer's voice builds up as she sings "Ahhh," and then the chorus comes in and relieves the tension. F.I.R. has easily claimed the title of my favorite Chinese group, because they're just cool. <3

Shiina Ringo - Remote Controller
[Koko de Kiss Shite: Track 3 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
This song has always been my favorite by Shiina Ringo. The verses are subdued and creepy-cool, which contrasts deliciously with the catchy and powerful chorus. Highly recommended!

Zwei - Dragon
[Z: Track 2 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
Dragon is a bit more pop than Zwei's usual style - it almost has a bit of techno in it? - but it's so good, I couldn't resist putting it up. Dragon actually starts off with strings, then goes into rock, and then the strings come back again later. I never imagined strings could blend so masterfully into a rock song, but it's simultaneously stylish and beautiful.

YUI - Rolling Star
[CAN'T BUY MY LOVE: Track 2 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
YUIIII. If you haven't listened to her music yet, this is a good place to start, because Rolling Star is an incredibly catchy, radio-friendly song. My favorite part is when she sings, "Fighting pose!" Is it just me, or are those the cutest lyrics ever? I love you, YUI!

Nana Kitade - Rasen
[18 -eighteen-: Track 3 | Genre: J-rock | Language: Japanese]
Everyone rags on Nana Kitade for being more about fashion than music, so I was expecting her debut album to suck, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Rasen stood out to me amongst the other tracks, aside from the famed Kesenai Tsumi, for its heartfelt chorus and the fact that Nana Kitade's voice actually sounds decent here. (Ouch.) Don't get me wrong, Nana Kitade doesn't have a bad voice, but she misuses a lot of the time and ends up sounding too cutesy and/or screechy. >_>;

Comment like your life depends on it!
